During your internship in R&D at General Mills, you will work with engineers and scientists to advance our understanding and improve the processes we use to make food the world loves!This role is within our Nutrition, Technology, & Science organization. In NTS, we help our brand-aligned R&D teams transform consumer-centric possibilities into realities through science. We build and advance technical solutions to enable innovations and drive efficiencies in ingredients, processes, packaging, and products.

Key Accountabilities

We are looking for an engineering student, pursuing a thesis Master’s or Ph.D. engineering degree, with a strong academic background who can analyze real-world situations using data-centric and phenomenon-based modeling tools. In the course of your intern project, you will gain experience in:

Job Responsibilities:

• Leveraging fundamental chemical and/or mechanical engineering principles to dissect and understand how great-tasting food is made on our equipment.
• Applying computer-aided engineering (CAE) modeling, process modeling, and data-driven or machine learning techniques to generate and analyze data.
• Assisting R&D engineers in the design and execution of experiments to test hypotheses, generate data needed for model validation, and scale-up / scale-down to translate insights.
• Delivering recommendations to our R&D teams that advance technical possibilities, deliver adopted solutions to problems, and drive impact to our brand-aligned businesses.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

• Pursuing a thesis Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related competitive engineering field
• Able to commit to 3-6 month internship experience with advisor alignment
• Experience in computer-aided engineering modeling and simulation (i.e. computational fluid dynamics, finite element methods, process modeling and simulation, computational chemistry, etc.)
• Programming experience in one or more languages common to computational engineering (i.e. Python, R, Matlab, VBA etc.)
• Proven record of scientific excellence and data-driven decision making
• Ability to deliver outstanding results and are developing technical and business acumen
• Learning mindset and cultural agility, curiosity, and inventiveness
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, passion, enthusiasm, and professionalism

Further Details

This Co-Op is a Full-Time opportunity that will run from the winter of 2022 to the late summer of 2023. We will work with the respective candidate to identify the start and end dates of this Co-Op. A full-time opportunity means that you will work 40 hours a week. This is a paid opportunity with General Mills and further details will be provided later in the application process. This role is located in Golden Valley, MN at the James F. Bell Technical Center. This role will not provide relocation assistance or any sponsorship assistance and cannot be completed remotely.Company Overview
